Asbestos Litigation
Over the past 20 years, Hassard Bonnington has represented numerous
clients in the asbestos litigation. The firm began representing Pittsburgh
Corning Corporation in 1982. Hassard Bonnington was one of three Northern
California firms representing over 30 corporations as part of the Asbestos
Claims Facility during its existence in the 1980s. Following the
dissolution of the Asbestos Claims Facility, the firm continued to
represent Pittsburgh Corning Corporation as regional counsel in California
and as national trial counsel until Pittsburgh Corning's bankruptcy filing
in April of 2000. The firm's partners have successfully tried numerous
asbestos exposure cases to verdict in California, Texas, Washington,
Colorado and other western states. The firm currently represents numerous
manufacturers, contractors, suppliers and premises owners in asbestos
exposure cases in California.
Latex Glove Litigation
Hassard Bonnington has represented a client in the latex glove litigation
since 1997 in both state and federal court actions. The firm has served as
regional counsel in that litigation for California and other western
states.
Silica Litigation
Hassard Bonnington represented a former manufacturer of respiratory
equipment in the silica litigation. These cases generally involved
plaintiffs who alleged that a defect in the respiratory equipment caused
them to be exposed to excessive amounts of silica and to develop
silicosis.
DBCP Litigation
Hassard Bonnington was involved for several years in the defense of
litigation involving DBCP, a type of pesticide. Several years into the
production and distribution of DBCP, it was discovered that many employees
of the manufacturer were sterile. In addition to the manufacturer's
employees, several hundred plaintiffs filed claims based on their exposure
to DBCP contaminated ground water. The firm participated in the
coordinated defense of that litigation for several years.
